A very common situation, you go directly to the supplier without a clear deign basis, ending in being supplied often a more expensive and larger than needed equipment. But what is the issue with being supplied a larger unit if it's at a competitive price?
Bigger in the cooling industry is not always better, a bigger unit will be able to bring the water to desired temperature very quickly, forcing the compressors to stop, this will generate temperature fluctuation, and also premature failure to some components and compressors as these are not designed to constantly start and stop many times within an hour of work.
Sometimes due to management, sometimes due to the size of the cooling project, you are required to compare quotations from more than 1 supplier and it's crucial that all of them have a clear and identical design basis. We have seen many inquiries when even if all suppliers were provided with the same throughput/h or same hydraulic power installed, the final quotation were different. But why? Suppliers use factors that are similar but not identical, the designs they used may not be the same, they may put more importance on energy savings rather than system performance and so on, leading to not having a like for like comparison on the final quotations, creating just more confusion.
